Today was a trip to the local grocery store for me. I was a bad boy. I went to the most expensive grocery store in town. I was lazy and it's the closest one to me and it's brand spanking new so I wanted to check it out. I figured since I was paying a premium for my groceries I might as well try to save as much as possible by taking some time and comparing prices of the goods I was buying.
I was after some good to make a pasta and sauce. So noodles, sauce, crushed tomato, olives and pineapples. By buying no name or generic goods I probably saved $3 on those items alone. There was a least a .50 cent difference between the generic and some of the name brands. I can't recall which but I think the noodles was way more. In the end my sauce isn't going to suffer because I chose a few generic no name goods. It's simmering quite nicely as I type.
Imagine how much I would have saved if I had been buying a full load of groceries? Really, it's just food. Who cares. At the end of the day does it matter that you paid an extra dollar for a brand name cereal or not? Not for this cat, there's no shame in buying no name.
