We recently picked up a PS3 for the house and I was impressed with the fact that they have a few neat power saving features for both the system and the controllers. I blogged once in the past about how much engery a video game system can drain and if you aren't using the power saving setting in your PS3 it might be a good idea to enable them.

First, the controllers have a power saving option. After 10 minutes of inactivity they will shut off. This is a great feature to save you having to charge them all the time. I was playing at a friends house and we were constantly having to charge them. This creates even a larger drain on your electricity bill. In the settings look for the Controller Auto-Off feature and enable it.

Secondly, you can also power off the system itself after 1-5 hours of inactivity. Of course it won't turn off if you are in game play or watching a movie. You can enable it to do so but this is something that you don't want to do. Look for the System Auto-Off feature in the settings and set it to turn off after an hour of non-use.

Using both of these features can help control your electricity use with your PS3 console and save you money on your electricity bill. If you think that this isn't a big deal refer to the attached image. It will show you just how much you can save.
