Akismet Stops Spam
I haven't posted any blogging tips for awhile so I thought I would share a quick obvious one that is sometimes overlooked. At least I did. Akismet is a spam stopping plugin that comes with the standard version of Wordpress. I have tried a pile of spam stopping plugins for my blogs and nothing has worked as well as this handy little plugin. Just activate it and go to wordpress. sign up and get your activation key and you are on your way to stopping blog spam comments.
The bonus is that it flags your comments based on their database of spam and then you have the option to delete it as spam or to approve it. Nothing seems to get by it like some of the others I have tried. Right now on this blog: "Akismet has caught 114 spam for you since you first installed it. You have no spam currently in the queue. Must be your lucky day." You also get ip's that you can ban through your htaccess which is nice.
