I meant to say sense but you get what I mean. My other half was out on the weekend doing some shopping for spring and I realized a couple of things when she was looking online at various stores. I have blogged before not to cheap out on things because you will end up paying in the long run. The example I used was shoes. If you are done growing and going to buy a pair of cheap shoes than don't expect them to last too long. I have a couple of Doc Martins that have been kicking around for over ten years. I paid top dollar but they are still in fashion and they are still as good as new.
She was out looking for at pet beds for our labrador retriever. My dog is happy laying on cement, the grass in the backyard and our hardwood floors. The last thing he needs is an expensive pillow to lay on. So we bought a cheap bed that will get us through the summer and we will replace it next fall if he has ruined it.
You have to use your sense when shopping. There are some things that you may want to spend a little more on if you want them to last and other things that you can cheap out on if it is something not as important. It's up to you decide.
I am not suggesting about being one those people on hoarders but I am suggesting to look things over before you throw them out and think about if they might be useful in the future. Case in point. I am in the midst of tearing my basement apart and putting a new frame up so I can have it spray foamed for insulation purposes.
Tonight I tore out all of the old baseboard and trim. I cut it up into small pieces to use for kindling. I had nowhere to put it or to store it and haul it outside. Then I remembered that I had an old shipping box that I saved for just such an emergency. By saving the box I had a free little storage/haulage container and I also had some free wood that I can use to burn in my fire pit.
I also saved a few pieces of good wood that I pulled out of the framing around the duct work. They might come in handy later on down the road. I also tore down an old shelf, spruced it up and put it outside by my hot tub and made a nice shelf to put my speakers on. No charge. I love saving money. Don't be so quick to throw things out.
