So tomorrow the plumber shows up to start my bathroom renovation. He gave me quote awhile back but I decided to start the gutting process myself. I broke the tile wall and took the plaster out over two Saturdays and took them to the dump. When we spoke last week he said he would do the quote over because I had one a fair bit of the work myself.
You would be suprised how much money you can save by doing your own prep work before paying a tradesperson to do it for you. It cost us less than $30 to dispose of it at the dump and about 10 hours to get it down to the studs. I am pretty sure the plumber would have been charging me more than that. I will keep everyone updated how it goes and how the final bill compares with the original when they were doing it all.
It's Sunday and in our household it means two things. Laundry day and grocery day. Since starting this blog every resource I have read suggests writing up a shopping list and stick to it in order to save money. You can't go into a grocery store with no list or plan and expect to come out of there with saving money. You have to know what you want to buy ahead of time so you can maybe look for coupons or look through the ads in the paper to find your best deal and prices.
We keep a pad of paper in the same spot all week and when we run out of something we write it down. That way we see it all week and keep our eyes peeled to see what is on sale or where. Do we need to go to Costco or can we get in elsewhere? It's all about getting the best deal.
If it's not on the list then it's not getting bought. So when I am complaining about having no junk food I am reminded that it wasn't on the list.
I just did a quick news search in google for insurance and was amazed at how many sites I found that had great articles on understanding insurance, explaining different types of policies and how to search for auto insurance quotes and home insurance. If you are sitting back and just taking your insurance for granted you really shouldn't. There are just too many good resources available online these days. You can compare companies, policies and prices. So why not? If you are just surfing around the internet it wouldn't hurt to have a look at what is available. Maybe you are paying too much? Maybe your coverage isn't enough and you need to update your policy and just maybe you are paying too much with your current insurance company. If you don't search you will never know.
A friend and I were recently talking about insurance and the costs and benefits of different terms and services offered by insurance companies. The one thing that came up was term life insurance and how confusing it can be when looking for a decent quote and at a good price with great coverage. I have term life insurance that I am paying every month and I know little about it. I am not sure why life insurance rates and quotes have to be so difficult to muddle through. I suggested that we look online for some more information so we can get a better understanding. There are lots of life insurance websites where you can search through different policies and get free quotes. It’s worth a look if you are like us and interested in getting an insurance quote.
It's hard in this day and age not to be health conscious. We are bombarded in the media like newspapers, websites and television with healthy living and diet. I see so many people in my daily life rushing out and buying whatever they can get their hands on in terms of things like vitamins and diet pills. They do it without thinking and the amount of money they spend amazes me.
The only tip I can give you is research out what you are buying, why you are buying it and how much you are paying. If you see a commercial for something then get on-line and read views. For example, why just go out and buy a diet pill without read something like Hydroxycut reviews. You have to know what you are buying, what the benefits are and how much you are paying.
