I found this out the hardway a few month back when I bought a faulty tapedeck convertor for my Sirius radio. I run the carkit through my tape deck and the sound is way better than running it through the radio. Anyways, I bought one from Radio Shack that broke. When I brought it back they charged me a "packaging fee". Nice.

Well this Christmas I am besieged by cardboard boxes in my basement. I am holding onto everyone of them until the warrently expires. I took the biggest one and filled it with all of the little ones and pushed it into the back corner. Never again will I pay a fee for "repackaging".

Save yourself some money and don't throw those boxes out until after your warrenty has expired.

I have a few friends that have recently become unemployed. I feel for them but in a couple of instances I see them not using all of the resources they have to find another job. The unemployment office has programs for finding work, updating skills and getting yourself back into the workforce. There are also quite a few job websites you can use for finding jobs online. I was looking through a few the other day and was suprised how many jobs there were listed. I was looking at jobs in finance and found a site where you can search by title, keywords and even location. It makes it easier. My advice to them and to you if you are looking is to get online and see if you can find a website to help you out.

saving money tipsIt's really quite silly but this week I figured I waste away about $30 or so dollars by throwing out my receipts. If you have read the blog before then you know we are doing out bathroom and a few other smaller projects around the house as well. Yesterday for example we went out and bough some electrical plates and plugs for the bathroom and downstairs thinking that I needed a double post model. Turns out I didn't and the single post outlet I had at home did the trick. To top it off I couldn't figure out how to hook up the timer for the bathroom exhause fan so I picked up a switch. After hooking the switch up I realized my error but am stuck with a $13 fan timer that I don't want or need. Threw the reciept out a few week ago for it so basically I am out of luck.

Keep you receipts and put them in one place and save them. From this point on I am going to try and save some money and put them all in place. That way if I need them. I know where they are.

It’s no surprise, diet pills are big business in our world and this is evident when you look at how many stores, websites and commercials on television you see for them. I couldn’t even imagine how many are sold worldwide each year. If you are going to be buying then do your homework. There are so many of them out there I wouldn’t even know where to begin myself. Search for different kinds, read as much as you can and put some good research into it. It will pay off in the long run. You can find many websites with reviews and feedback from others like yourself.

If you sit googling for searching for items you are thinking about purchasing I would imagine there would be an endless sea of results and pages. I read that if you search for fat burners or other similar items you can find millions of search results. Make sure when you are searching for your items that you find sites with good review by both the owner and other people that have used the item in question. Make sure they have some kind of customer contact phone number or forum so that you can get a hold of them if something should happen to go wrong. Look to see if they offer a money back guarantee. There is nothing worse than being stuck with something you don't want. And then of course, startvorites looking at prices.

Make a new folder in your favorites and save only the sites that have what you are looking for. From there you can narrow it down and you also make sure you don't forget a site. There is nothing worse than finding a good shopping website and then losing it. I always bookmark right away.

Citibank Credit Card and Rate-JackingIf you have a Citibank credit card you might want to check your next statement or look for a nasty little letter that is appearing in peoples mailboxes. In some cases people are reporting that their rates are being jacked from numbers like 7.95 all the way up to 16.99. It's called rate-jacking and it's exactly what Citibank is doing to it's loyal customers. Merry Christmas.

If you have a Citibank card you have until January to "opt out" of the rate jack and continue to use your card at the lower interest rate until the card expires. At that point your account will be closed and you will have to find a new card.

A word of caution though, if your credit rating is bad or if you are cards are all maxed out or you have no other source for a credit rating like a loan than you might want to think about cancelling your card. If you can find another card or perhaps speak to the customer service department like this guy did in comment number 13

Good luck and I would love to hear some of your Citibank horror stories.

One of the biggest decisions you can make to save you money is how much you are going to be paying for your health insurance. I couldn't even imagine before the days of the internet of having to shop around and compare prices and different benefit packages to suit your specific needs. There are so many different companies, packages and price structures available it would be overwhelming.

Save money on health insurance and get the best coverage possible are two things that you are going to want. At Health Benefits Direct you can do all of this at one website. They have a great search engine built into their site where you can search all of the major health insurance companies and compare their prices and plans. It makes it unbelievably easy to compare plans and rates so you can save money and get the best coverage you can.

Another great thing about this website is that you can get your quote and speak to an agent on the phone. This is great if you have any question about the health insurance plan you are interested in. People still like the personal touch and it’s great. Build your plan  and package that you think best suits you and then talk to a professional to ensure you are getting the best plan for your money.

What kind of savings are out there this holiday season? Since November we have been bombarded with all sorts of news stories on television, radio, the internet and newspapers about how dismal the economy is and how people are going to be spending less. Well it's probably true but this means retailers have to be giving away some good deals on specials on items or else they lose too. Right?

There have been penty of ads on big sales and savings to be had on everything this shopping season from jewelry, electronics, computers, home goods and even bigger ticket items like cars. Today I saw that Ford was offering shares in their company with the purchase of a new vehicle.

Don't let the stories about bad shopping times get you down. Go out and make some good from it and find some good deals and giveaways.

bathroom renovationsSo tomorrow the plumber shows up to start my bathroom renovation. He gave me quote awhile back but I decided to start the gutting process myself. I broke the tile wall and took the plaster out over two Saturdays and took them to the dump. When we spoke last week he said he would do the quote over because I had one a fair bit of the work myself.

You would be suprised how much money you can save by doing your own prep work before paying a tradesperson to do it for you. It cost us less than $30 to dispose of it at the dump and about 10 hours to get it down to the studs. I am pretty sure the plumber would have been charging me more than that. I will keep everyone updated how it goes and how the final bill compares with the original when they were doing it all.

grocery listIt's Sunday and in our household it means two things. Laundry day and grocery day. Since starting this blog every resource I have read suggests writing up a shopping list and stick to it in order to save money. You can't go into a grocery store with no list or plan and expect to come out of there with saving money. You have to know what you want to buy ahead of time so you can maybe look for coupons or look through the ads in the paper to find your best deal and prices.

We keep a pad of paper in the same spot all week and when we run out of something we write it down. That way we see it all week and keep our eyes peeled to see what is on sale or where. Do we need to go to Costco or can we get in elsewhere? It's all about getting the best deal.

If it's not on the list then it's not getting bought. So when I am complaining about having no junk food I am reminded that it wasn't on the list.

I just did a quick news search in google for insurance and was amazed at how many sites I found that had great articles on understanding insurance, explaining different types of policies and how to search for auto insurance quotes and home insurance. If you are sitting back and just taking your insurance for granted you really shouldn't. There are just too many good resources available online these days. You can compare companies, policies and prices. So why not? If you are just surfing around the internet it wouldn't hurt to have a look at what is available. Maybe you are paying too much? Maybe your coverage isn't enough and you need to update your policy and just maybe you are paying too much with your current insurance company. If you don't search you will never know.
