Save Money Cooking

Tag:

I have always been surprised at how many people I see constantly talk about saving money or the cost of things and then turn around and eat out at fast food joints or restaurants. You can't away from eating fast food or at a greasy spoon these days for $10 and people are doing it two to three times a week.

If you want to save money, eat at home. Period. Take that $50 a week and put it into groceries. You won't spend as much food shopping and the food will last you a lot longer. You will also be a lot healthier and that's worth it's weight in gold.

If you are on the road for extended periods of time, grab a cooler and bring some food with you. Find a hotel that has a fridge so you can store your food overnight and keep your ice packs cool.

Not much for tips but people don't realize the money you can save by cooking at home or taking a lunch with them instead of eating out at fast food places or restaurants.

But what about the future?

That's another place where a budget comes in handy. When you've allotted a portion of the household's weekly income to the necessities, what's left over is your discretionary spending amount. These are the funds available to you for short-term expenses, or long-term investments, like your children's education, and your own retirement funds.

For those that save money on a regular basis, you can find that it is much easier than you think to save for college, buy a home or a large purchase such as a dream vacation. Unfortunately, saving is not easy to do and requires discipline, but if you want to save money, here are two smart and easy ways to do so.

Save Money Using a 401K Account
One of the easiest and most effective ways to save money is through an employer's 401K account. With a 401K account, you can have your employer deduct a set amount from your paycheck during each pay cycle. The good news is that you receive your paycheck with the amount already deducted- this ensures that the amount is saved each pay period. Once deducted, you have the option of investing the money in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market accounts, etc. So not only are you able to save a specific amount of money each pay period, but your money will hopefully grow.

Save Money By Lowering Electric Bill

Tag:

I am sure if you add up your electric bill over the past couple of years you would be surprised just how much money you have spent. Here are a couple of tips to lower that bill every month.

Wash your clothes in cold water whenever you can. Using hot water just adds to your electric bill. Even by using warm water instead of hot water helps. Take a look at that hot water pipe going to your taps, insulating it can help too.

Instead of running your dryer put up a clothes line outside or get some low cost racks for your basement to hang your clothes on. Even if you can hang them for couple of hours and then put them in the dryer for 10-15 minutes instead of running the dryer for an hour will help lower your bill.

Speaking of dryers, take a look at your appliances. If they do not have that energy saver sticker on them chances are they using a lot of hydro. Refrigerators,  washers and dryers are the worst culprits for wasting expensive electricity.

Don't forget to turn off lights and televisions when not using them. Have a look at your computer and make sure to use the power down feature or turn it off when you are not using it.

Those are just a few random tips that will help cut down on your electrical bill. If you have any more please comment.

How To Organize Your Money

Tag:

Organization is the key to a balanced life! Organization saves you time, energy, frustration, and confusion. To be organized means to be efficient in the way separate elements are arranged into a consistent structure. In other words, everything has its place, find the place, and when you're done put it back. In all my years of counseling people in the area of personal finances, one of the biggest issues that cause money woes is the lack of organization.

When you are not organized life feels chaotic, excruciating, and out of control. You can actually feel your sanity slipping away. But like everything else in life - you need to admit that you have organization issues, and that want to change. Next, you need to make a commitment to get organized, and get your life in order. Then come up with a plan. If you're too overwhelmed to get started, have a friend or a professional help you get organized. Your life and financial future depends on it.

Organize your time - Use a calendar, palm pilot, or organizer to manage your time. Think of your time as money. When you waste your time you are throwing away money, so plan and schedule your time.

Organize your files - Start a paper filing system. Get manila folders to organize statements, bills, letters, and other important papers. If it's important it should have a place to go.
